Patient Rights & Responsibilities

This page outlines your rights as a patient or family member at Royal Hospital, as defined by the Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman. You have the right to know and exercise these rights.

Your Rights as a Patient

  • Receive respectful, dignified, and compassionate care at all times
  • Be fully informed about your diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in understandable language
  • Give or withhold informed consent before any procedure
  • Have your privacy and confidentiality protected
  • Access your own medical records
  • Have a family member or representative informed about your care
  • Receive care regardless of nationality, religion, gender, or social status
  • Make complaints and receive a response without fear of it affecting your care
  • Receive pain management and palliative care as appropriate

Your Responsibilities as a Patient / Family

  • Provide accurate and complete medical history and information
  • Follow the treatment plan agreed with the medical team
  • Respect visiting hours and ICU guidelines
  • Treat all staff, patients, and visitors with respect
  • Not bring food, drinks, or personal items into the ICU without permission
  • Ask questions and seek clarification rather than acting independently on medical matters
  • Inform staff of any changes you notice in the patient's condition
